How it Works

1

CONNECT WITH HELP
Connect with HOPE South Florida (HSF) for assistance.

2

EVALUATE CASE
HSF case managers determine whether individuals or families are in danger of homelessness and qualify for the Program.

3

EXPLORE LEGAL MATTERS
HSF determines if legal assistance is needed and refers individuals or families to the Legal Aid Service of Broward County. If an individual or family initially contacts the Legal Aid Service of Broward County directly, the Legal Aid Service of Broward County will refer them to HSF, if necessary.

4

PARTNERSHIP SERVICES
HSF provides individuals or families with support services, and the Legal Aid Service of Broward County provides them with the legal services necessary to prevent homelessness.

5

PREVENT HOMELESSNESS
Now, individuals and families have received the essential assistance to prevent homelessness.

Individuals and families begin the process by connecting with HOPE South Florida (HSF). Then, HSF’s case manager evaluates the case and works with the family or individual to determine if they qualify for the Program and what services are necessary to prevent them from becoming homeless. This may include support services by HSF or one of its partners and/or a referral to the Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LEGAL AID) for legal services. To qualify, among other things, the household income of the individual or family cannot exceed 200% of the established poverty level, and the legal and support services will be provided by LEGAL AID and/or HSF at no cost to the individual or family involved.

Suppose an individual or family initially connects directly with LEGAL AID. In that case, LEGAL AID refers the individual or family to HSF to determine whether the individual or family qualifies for the Program and is eligible to receive the broad spectrum of assistance available through HSF.

This process aims to meet an individual or family’s needs in receiving the support and/or legal services they need to prevent them from becoming homeless.
